– an outsider art show featuring acrylic, watercolor, oil and abstract art made by inmates from the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail

Presented by the Gallery at 5th & Water and the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail

The show contains work from McGuffey Art Classes that are offered to inmates through the Programs Department at the jail.

Three local artists associated from the Charlottesville Community serve as the instructors participating in this outreach project to the local inmates.
Rose Hill & Lindsay Freedman instruct acrylic, and LeVonne Yountz instructs abstract art.

Each week new concepts are introduced such as volume, shading, line and perspective. Instructors have commented of the class:
“I feel that it gives them a sense of accomplishment. Many of them come into the class saying that they cannot draw, and then they find out that they can.”  “I try to give them an outlet, something to get their minds off of their troubles. I try to steer them towards the positive and away from the negative things going on in their environment. The art is really just a by-product of this.”

Program organized by:
Phyllis Back, Director of Programs for the Albemarle- Charlottesville Regional Jail.
